QuickBooks Payroll Error 12009 is a message that appears when you try to print your payroll on the day it is due. The error means that something went wrong during the print job and the printer may not be able to finish. Check your Internet Connection Setup in QuickBooks from the Help->Internet Connection Setup menu selection. Verify that your connection is set to use your computer’s internet connection settings, as shown below.
Click Next.
Click Done and try to perform the update again.

Situation 2 – The Error Occurred Updating a QuickBooks Payroll Service
Check your Internet Connection Setup in QuickBooks from the Help->Internet Connection Setup menu selection. Verify that your connection is set to use your computer’s internet connection (screenshot shown above) and click Next. Click the Advanced Connection Settings… button to display the Internet Properties window. On the Advanced tab, verify that Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 are checked. Click Apply and then Ok. Keep in mind that this change will affect your connection to the internet using Internet Explorer
